Bartholomew - Map of Cambridge

Here is a map of Cambridge, which comes from the "Royal Atlas of England and Wales", edited by John George Bartholomew, and published by George Newnes in 1899 (or possibly a couple of years later). it comes from Plate 68, which was a double page spread bound into the atlas on a linen guard, with a plan of Oxford to the left and a plan of Cambridge to the right.

The innermost box framing the map measures 204 x 303 mm, or about 8 x 12 in. The scale of the original is 10 inches to the mile. There is a 1/4 mile scale bar in the bottom right hand corner of the map, which can just be made out in the image on this page.

The origin and date of this map was established with the help of cam.misc, where there was also some discussion about the accuracy of the map. Many thanks to cam.misc'ers, and the nice person at Harper Collins who finally nailed down where the map was originally published.
