College Foundations 1901-2000

There were no 20th century foundations until after the Second World War, when a number of new colleges appeared on the scene to meet the requirements of the increasing University population.

A large proportion of the new increased population were graduate students, and this period saw the introduction of a new type of college to Cambridge: the graduate college.

1954 New Hall.
1960 Churchill College.
1965 Darwin College.
1965 Lucy Cavendish College.
1965 University College. Later to become Wolfson College.
1966 Clare Hall.
1966 Fitzwilliam College.
1973 Wolfson College.
1974 Robinson College.
