1966 Fitzwilliam College founded

In 1952, Regent House approved a policy to encourage the growth of the Non-Collegiate Students' Board. A fund was started, which was contributed to by Fitzwilliam men and, in memory of W F Reddaway, by King's College, with a view to founding a new college with proper collegiate buildings.

In 1960, the Huntington Road site for the college was obtained, and in 1963 the first building were in use. Finally, in 1966, the University was convinced that Fitzwilliam College was a viable proposition, and gave it the status of a full college.
