1965 Lucy Cavendish College founded

The idea for the College came out of talks over meals, originally several weekly lunch meetings held in 1951 in the Regent House members' combination room. The lunches led to the formation of a dining society which met first at the Copper Kettle, then in the Harvey Court of Caius College.

Eventually Lucy Cavendish College was given Approved Society status in the summer of 1965. It was a graduate college for women only, and gave places to lecturers and research workers who were not members of any other college.
