1496 Jesus College founded

The buildings of the Benedictine St Radegund's Priory were in disrepair, and only two nuns remained. At this point, the decision was taken by John Alcock, Bishop of Ely, to dissolve the Priory and use the buildings and revenues to found a new college.

The College of the Blessed Mary the Virgin, St John the Evangelist, and the glorious virgin St Radegund, commonly known as Jesus college from an early date, was founded by John Alcock, Bishop of Ely, in 1496. Initially it comprised a master, 6 fellows and 6 boy scholars.
