1473 St Catherine's College founded

Catharine Hall was founded by Robert Wodelarke, in 1473, while he was Provost of King's College. It was dedicated to the honour of God, the most blessed Virgin Mary, and St Catherine.

In 1459 he started his plans for a college with a master and 10 fellows who were to study philosophy and theology. But as a result of problems at his King's, and some personal losses, when his new College opened the scale was more modest, with only 3 fellows in addition to the Master. Like Corpus Christi, Catherine Hall was founded more as a chantry than a College, the Fellows being bound to pray and celebrate requiem masses for the founder's soul.

The College occupied a small plot that originally faced onto Milne Street, now Queens' Lane. It was the last College between High Street and the river to occupy a new site.

Since 1860 Catherine Hall has been known as St Catharine's College.
