1352 Corpus Christi College founded

Unique amongst the colleges of Oxford and Cambridge in that it was founded by two town guilds, the guilds of Corpus Christi and the Blessed Virgin Mary, under the patronage of the Duke of Lancaster.

On its foundation the College appropriated the church of St Bene't, and the College was long known as St Bene't's or Bene't College. Old Court was built qickly, and finished by 1377, becoming the first complete court of a Cambridge college.
