1347 Pembroke College founded

The Hall of Valence Marie, or Pembroke Hall, was founded by Mary de St Pol, Countess of Pembroke, Baroness of Wexford in Ireland, and of Montignac, Bellac and Rançon in France, daughter of Guy, Count of St Pol, Chatillon and St Paul, and widow of Aymer de Valence, Earl of Pembroke.

The Royal Licence of foundation was granted by Edward III on 24 December 1347.

Land was bought in 1346 for the foundation buildings. They were built in the latter half of the 14th century, and now form the North-West corner of Old Court of Pembroke College, facing onto Trumpington Street and Pembroke Street.

It later became known as Pembroke College with no change of foundation.
