1326 University Hall founded

Originally conceived in 1321, by Roger de Northburg, a prominant figure in the University. He got a licence for the University to hold endowments for the permanent support of a house that would accommodate men studying subjects such as logic and theology. However, the following year he was made Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield, which removed him from the Cambridge scene.

There were already two houses used as student hostels in Milne Street, now Trinity Lane, the site of today's Clare College. These houses were given a large sum of money by Bishop Salmon of Norwich in 1325. In the following year the University with Richard de Badew as Chancellor founded University Hall, incorporating the newly endowed hostels and fulfilling the plan of Roger de Northburg.

It was later refounded as Clare Hall.
