1322 Town-gown riots

Further damage was inflicted on University property.

Leedham-Green suggests that the riots may have been due to resentment against what the townspeople called the "Black Assembly". This was an annual ceremony during which the Mayor and Bailiffs were required to swear before the chancellor that they would uphold the privileges of the University.
