1317 King's Hall founded

Founded by Edward II, at the prompting of John Hotham, who was both Bishop of Ely and the Royal Chancellor.

Originally consisted of a clerk and 12 children, known as the King's Childer, from the Chapel Royal. The Chapel Royal was a body of clergy repsonsible for praying for the soul of the King and those of his predecessors. The boys of the Chapel Royal earned their keep and education by serving as choristers.

King's Hall was refounded 20 years later, and eventually incorporated into Trinity College.
